Known as Pão de Queijo in Brazil, Marcelo Menoita and Barbara Scholten’s cheese breads are a delicious and a unique delicacy perfect for snacking and entertaining, and are now Coeliac NZ gluten free certified.
Sold frozen, simply pop the little balls of cheesy dough in the oven and watch as they transform into light and fluffy bread, filling the whole house with the tasty aroma of freshly baked bread and cheese. Preferably, you could thaw them for half an hour prior to baking, allowing the Cheese Bread to popup more.
Launched in 2013, the demand for the Brazilian savoury snack exploded, and within six weeks demand had outgrown supply. The business was quickly developed to produce in large batches. As Marcelo says, his “task is to make sure mom’s recipe is kept intact though the production process”, catering to New Zealand’s voracious appetite for these delicious treats.
Find Durello at stand #6 at the Gluten Free Food and Allergy Show in Hamilton this weekend, where Barbara and Marcelo will be launching two new and exciting Brazilian Bread flavours, also certified gluten free. They will also be at the Auckland and Christchurch events.
