Located inside the crater of a 60,000 year old extinct volcano, Villa Maria Estate sits nestled among an oasis of grapevines, lying close to the magnificent Manukau Harbour.
Villa Maria is not just a winery; it’s an events centre, a restaurant and a welcoming cellar door. This magical place is located just five minutes’ drive from Auckland International Airport and 30 minutes from the central city. While Villa Maria has vineyards in Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough, the 40-hectare Ihumatao site is one of the jewels in its gleaming crown. Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Verdelho and Albariño wines are made here from grapes grown onsite.
The Vineyard Café is open seven days for lunch, serving delicious food and wines. You can enjoy a glass of Villa Maria wine on the terrace which overlooks the Ihumatao Vineyard, share a platter or have lunch.
If there’s no time for lunch, visitors can taste and buy wines at the welcoming cellar door. Villa Maria’s passion for quality is reflected in everything they do, from the award winning wines, to the memorable experiences on site.
Celebrate this Christmas with the award-winning Villa Maria Estate Reserve Pinot Noir 2015.
This Marlborough Reserve Pinot Noir has a perfumed bouquet of freshly ground coffee beans mixed with hints of baking spices. On the palate fresh red plums and blackberry fruits are mingled with savoury toasty notes and dried rosemary herbs on the finish.
This complex wine shows intense purity and richness, earthy dense rounded tannins and soft acidity complete the experience. This wine will age gracefully, slowly unwinding to show more fruit and texture with bottle maturation.
