Eat, sleep: The George, Christchurch

Weronika Elantkowska discovers the perfect blend of state-of-the art modernity and classic luxe at The George, Christchurch.

Stay
Located in the heart of Christchurch, The George overlooks the beautiful Hagley Park and River Avon. When entering the hotel, you are welcomed with a warm and contemporary design and greeted by professional and helpful staff. This boutique-style hotel is perfect for anyone looking for luxury accommodation and a place to relax, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Sleep
The George offers a range of different rooms, depending on your needs. I was lucky enough to stay in The Residence – a luxury hotel villa. The room was very spacious, and came complete with a super king bed, a TV and a stylish minibar.

My room even had its own corridor, which led to a sophisticated, marble bathroom with jacuzzi, shower and – the most memorable part – a heated toilet seat! And trust me, you really appreciate those luxury bathroom facilities in the winter. The room is super high tech, which is a bonus – you can easily control the temperature, blinds, lights and the TV. Additionally, The Residence includes a dining and drawing room as well as a library and a beautiful garden. I must admit, it was a very relaxed stay and if you're looking for a luxury and restful getaway, then this place is for you.

Eat
The hotel is well known for both of its restaurants, Bistro 50 and Pescatore. If you have time, I recommend dining at both. We had the opportunity to eat breakfast in the Bistro, which offers an à la carte menu or buffet. The buffet was fabulous, showcasing a wide variety of cheeses and meats, hot options and a selection of fruits, fresh pastries and yoghurts. There was even pudding if you felt so inclined. If you are not a buffet fan, you can order your choice of sweet or savoury breakfast from the menu. The Bistro showcases fresh and high-quality products, which makes for a very pleasurable experience.

Although I haven’t had a chance to visit Pescatore, it is a renowned restaurant that offers fine dining with an emphasis on seafood. Additionally, on the ground floor is the hotel bar, where you can order a wide selection of drinks including, wine, beer and cocktails.

The George is one of my favourite hotels to stay when travelling to Christchurch. It has a very relaxing ambience and has many luxury amenities to enjoy during your visit.
