How to have the sweetest Valentine's Day

Some of our favourite makers and bakers have some dreamy treats to spoil your special someone (or yourself) this Sunday.

If you have a sweet tooth yourself or want to treat someone who has one, there are more than enough sweets to go around this Valentines Day. Here are some of the most tempting creations we've come across so far.

The Jellyologist – 'Lovers Elixir'

Straight from The Jellyologist's test kitchen, this dessert is the least traditional Valentines treat you're likely to find. Inspired by the emerald's passion-giving powers (as described in Crystal Lore), the 'Lover's Elixir' comes complete with glitter, as well as your own special message sealed inside. Find out more here.

The Caker – Heart-shaped Cakes

Full of interesting flavours and always gorgeously decorated, The Caker's creations are never half-hearted. The Caker's doors will be open on Saturday (452 Karangahape Road, Auckland) from 11-2pm for you to pop by if you're after one of these sweet heart-shaped rhubarb cakes to gift or keep. Pop past to view The Caker's full Valentines Day collection.

Little Bird Organics – Picnic Packs

Little Bird Organics are offering these gorgeous picnic packs filled with their 'unbaked' goodies for Valentines. Soak up the sun and enjoy a sandwich, strawberry nut mylks, a vege-filled bird bowl and two of their rich dessert options. Bluebell's Cakery – Valentines Cheesecake

Karla Goodwin of Bluebell's Cakery is offering a special selection of Valentines baking, including these stunning cheesecakes. There are also cookies, cupcakes and drizzle cakes available in the sweetest shades of pink to order through

Newcomers Little Dough Co. have been offering up their tempting wares to Wellingtonians for a while now and have come up with a special Valentines-inspired flavour for the weekend. Find their freshly baked doughnuts topped with peach glaze, roses and toasted almonds at Customs Brew Bar (39 Ghuznee Street, Te Aro) and Vic Books this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Milse – Gelato Sticks

The most romantic way to combat the summer heat has got to be Milse's divine red velvet and cheesecake gelato sticks; you'll find them at Milse on both Saturday and Sunday. Their white chocolate, strawberry, macadamia and prosecco gateux also make the dessert bar well worth a Valentines visit! You'll also find a range of Valentines gift boxes, perfect for a last minute present.
