Drop of the Day - Leefield Station Pinot Noir 2018
The fruity, toasty notes of Leefield Station's 2018 Pinot Noir work a treat with our Braised Shoulder of Lamb with Crushed Pea Salsa.
The cooler climate in the vineyards of Marlborough's Waihopai Valley has been good to this 2018 Pinot Noir.
While the grapes in this bottle were still on the vine, the start of Summer brought with it one of the warmest Decembers on record. And the key-ripening months of January through March also provided above-average temperatures too. However, the unpredictable weather patterns that started brewing in late March prompted the team to harvest fast and early.
It was a move that paid off. In each sip of this, you'll find red fruit, underlying oak and elements of toast and smoke offset by a vibrant, juicy acidity that is typical of the Waihopai Valley. The drop is designed to be enjoyed within 3-5 years of the vintage date, and the flavours beg for something rich and fresh, like Braised Shoulder of Lamb with Crushed Pea Salsa.
