Italian treats come to Arrowtown
A piece of Italian tradition has come to Arrowtown with the opening of New Zealand’s first specialist pizzelle shop.
Located on Buckingham Street, A Taste of Gibbston Valley has expanded to open The Pizzelle Shop, which will offer the traditional handmade sweet pastries and cold pressed iced coffee to take away daily from 11am to 4pm.
Pizzelles are made by pouring a batter into a pizzelle iron, a small version of a waffle iron, which also imprints a distinctive snowflake-like pattern.
The Pizzelle Shop will make pizzelles to order in chocolate or vanilla and in four different styles: traditional (a stack of four flat pizzelle biscuits); cannolis (pizzelles that have been rolled into tubes and filled with a choice of two fillings); tart (a flat pizzelle served with a layer of rich mascarpone cheese custard topped with fresh seasonal fruit); or sandwich (a choice of vanilla or chocolate served as a sandwich with a choice of three fillings.)
