Tomorrow's Brunch – L'affare Melrose, Auckland
Photography by India Essuah.

After 26 years in the coffee business, much-loved Wellington roasters L'affare have made their way to Auckland.
Wellington coffee roasters L'affare have opened up their first Auckland outpost. Tucked away on Newmarket's Melrose Street you'll find their large, industrial space, filled with beautiful details (and beautiful coffee).
The first thing you'll notice is its thoughtful design: dark brown walls are accentuated by comfy forest-green benches while an eye-catching brass divide runs behind the counter. School-like desks and chairs make up the bulk of the seating, and further vintage touches include beautiful brown glass lamps which line the walls.
Their all-day menu features a series of delicious-sounding breakfast options: Puffed Quinoa Muesli with nuts and Black Rice Porridge with coconut milk, fruit and vanilla yoghurt feature alongside their Truffle Scramble and classics such as Mince on Toast. I went for the Three-egg Omelette with spanner crab, dill and capers – it made for a simple yet satisfying start to the day.

My next visit was a lunchtime one and I tried the Purple Carrots with coriander, edamame, bean sprouts and sesame dressing. While light and fresh, each element was packed with flavour and there was coriander galore, which is always a welcome sight in my books. If you were after something closer to the comfort-food end of the food spectrum their Crusted Beef Short Ribs or Coffee-rubbed Cheeseburger with provolone and fries might be the way to go.
Coffee is what the L'affare team do best: you can choose from the filter blends available (the staff will be happy to fill you in on what's on offer during your visit), gawk at the amazing roaster they've brought on to the site or peruse the array of equipment they have available to take home. Bit of a coffee-lover's dream really.
