Tomorrow's Dessert – Elisabeth Coffee & Desserts
This new inner-city dessert spot has the potential to bring out the sweet tooth in anyone.
It isn't often that you walk in to an inner-city Auckland cafe and feel as though you've slipped down the rabbit hole of sweet deliciousness.
Not because the decor is particularly outlandish or Mad Hatter-esque, but because the menu here is almost exclusively sweet. Elisabeth Coffee & Desserts does what many only dream of – serving seriously good coffee alongside decadent sweets.
When asked about the inspiration behind this indulgent little sweet spot – sitting proudly on Kingsland's New North Road and neighbouring the Tonic Room – owner Rosh Java's answer is short and sweet: "There was nowhere to get really good coffee at night, even in the city."
Kingsland locals will be pleased to hear that their prayers have been answered in the form of a chocolatier and coffee house that's designed to keep sweetish satisfied and coffee-lovers caffeinated, outside of conventional work hours.
Come Winter, Rosh predicts their devilishly good and authentic hot chocolate and Beetroot Latte will become something of a proud pleaser, accompanying the too-pretty-to-eat offerings like Affogato Trifle and sticky Bakhlava Crumble. For the ambitious, there's the dessert degustation – a sampler of treats to savour with someone special.
It's been a long time coming but we can safely say that Elisabeth's fashionably late arrival was well and truly worth the wait.
