Pure Delish: Keeping it Kiwi
pure delish is giving back in a big way, learn about their exciting new ‘Local As’ initiative and how you can be in to win their delicious new granolas.
pure delish started out as a humble venture by young mum Kaz Staples in the 90s at a time when she was just trying to make some extra cash for her family at Christmas. Being a keen baker, she put her skills to use and was able to spot a gap in the market for high-end Christmas cakes.
The story didn’t end there though, in 2006 the seasonal cake business took a pivotal turn when Farro Fresh opened their first store in Auckland. The owners were looking for a high-end muesli, so they approached pure delish to see if they were interested in making one. That’s when the company’s first cereal was born, Original Chunky Nut Muesli, still one of pure delish’s most popular products today. It was a big risk, but after plenty of persuasion and hard work, pure delish became New Zealand’s super-premium breakfast cereal of choice.
Over the next 15 years, pure delish went from strength to strength, developing a range of delicious cereals and snacks like bites, slabs, snack bars, snacking clusters and nut mixes. They continued to evolve alongside changing Kiwi diets and eating habits, introducing the first paleo cereal, Raspberry & Maple Nut Nograin-ola, as well as launching interesting flavours like Strawberry & Pistachio Breakfast Mix and Peach, Pecan & Vanilla Nograin-ola.
Keeping it Kiwi
pure delish is all about developing delicious products that keep up with the evolving market trends but they’re also about keeping things Kiwi. And after a very tough year for Kiwi businesses due to Covid-19, they came up with their ‘pure delish Local As’ range – granolas made from 100% New Zealand grown ingredients.
A much trickier proposition than you might think, pure delish searched from the top of the north to the bottom of the south for ingredients to put in their new granolas. But in the end, they found what they were after, ingredients like quinoa, macadamias and buckwheat all grown in our very own backyard.
Their new Local As flavours include:
- Macadamia & Manuka Honey
- Blackberry, Blueberry & Boysenberry
- Nectarine, Blueberry & Horopito
Thinking Ahead
As part of their journey into supporting local and giving back, pure delish looked at what else they could do to support Aotearoa going forward. In the end, they chose to generously donate 10% of all profits from their Local As range to the Forest Lifeforce Restoration Trust. This will help to fund their highly successful kiwi breeding programme, forest regeneration and protection of threatened NZ native species initiatives. Something which future generations of New Zealanders will enjoy the benefit of!
Artistic Vision
The final step in their journey was to showcase the talents of some of our country’s rising artists. And they’re very proud to include the artwork of Catherine Marion, an artist from Taranaki, on their packaging. What’s more, pure delish has partnered with Soft Plastics Recycling – a scheme that enables their packs to be recycled locally into new products.
‘Local As’ marks pure delish’s first step towards becoming more sustainable so our people, planet and local communities can thrive. After all, that’s what being Local As is all about eh!
