Up close at Hallertau Brewery
A new look for Hallertau Brewery in northwest Auckland is bringing the craft beers and diners closer together...
A makeover at craft brewery and bar Hallertau in northwest Auckland means guests can now enjoy a meal while watching the award-winning beers being brewed and bottled on site.
The wall separating the brewery from the dining area has been removed and the more interactive layout features Hallertau tap beers in the centre of the room so bar goers can see what’s being poured.
Hallertau owner and head brewer Steve Plowman says it’s about giving people a full beer experience. “The new brew house has opened up to let people see our beer being made - and because the staff are now taking orders at the tables, they’re being asked more questions about the beer they are drinking, and why it tastes like it does."
Making way for the change in seasons, a new one-off beer will be brewed and released every two months. At the moment it is Logg Cabin – an American-styled amber brew.
Hallertau’s brewing capacity has also increased to 800,000 litres a year thanks to newly installed tanks and an onsite bottling machine. “We’ve also opened The Beer Fountain which offers smaller brewers a chance to use our onsite facility to make their own beer in larger batches and to a more consistent quality than is possible from a small-scale set-up,” says Stephen.
The renovation at Hallertau was designed by architect Allistar Cox – a hospitality specialist who has accomplished the design of Matterhorn and Golden Dawn, and other international bars – and is part of a two-phase project, which will also see a large new garden bar opening in October.
