Bright Nights at Auckland's Viaduct Harbour
Viaduct Harbour has teamed up with award-winning light artist Angus Muir Design to create a full scale lighting experience, Bright Nights, at Auckland’s premier waterfront destination.
Art-lovers rejoice, Auckland's Viaduct will be up in lights come Friday, May 11.
Bright Nights will feature more than a dozen installations, with the lighting trail weaving its way through the Viaduct Harbour hospitality precinct, starting at the former America’s Cup boat, KZ1 outside the New Zealand Maritime Museum, and finishing at Waitematā Plaza. This family-friendly, free event will come to life from 6pm to late on Friday, May 11 and run until Sunday, May 13.
With an award-winning portfolio in over 50 lighting events across eight countries, Angus Muir has cemented his reputation as a world-class lighting visionary.
The theme of clean seas and sustainability underpins the festival’s storyline, connecting the audience to the unique Viaduct Harbour waterfront and Sir Peter Blake Trust, the event’s charitable partner. Located in Market Square, ‘Fortune Fountain’ is an interactive art work by Puck Murphy, Conrad Wedde and Olivier Jean proffering a contemporary interpretation of the mythical wishing well.
Based on the proverbial notion of water embodying deities, the installation provides a dynamic visual reaction to coins being tossed into the water, with all proceeds going to the charitable trust.
For the avid foodie, enjoy the view from the precinct's varied restaurants, bars and eateries. Viaduct Harbour’s hospitality scene will be buzzing with special offers, including visiting purveyors Karma Coffee and ‘glow-in-the-dark’ gelato by Lalele Organic. The gelato pop-up will form part of an experiential UV room located within the Viaduct’s former Cowboys site on Market Square, drawing attention to the site that will be taken over by a soon-to-be revealed Asian fusion eatery concept later this year.
