Marlborough’s best day out
The Marlborough Wine & Food Festival returns 11 February 2023 to celebrate the very best of the famous wine-making region.
The Marlborough Wine & Food Festival, held on Saturday 11 February 2023 at Renwick Domain, is world-famous for its fabulous wines, delicious cuisine and brilliant atmosphere.
General Manager of Wine Marlborough Marcus Pickens says that in its 36th year, the festival is a heritage festival with a recipe for success.
“This will be a stellar event after a tough couple of years for the viticulture industry, and the wineries, chefs, caterers and bands are ready to celebrate what’s special about our region – amazing wine, delicious food, and friendly people.”
The festival is special because it is hosted by the people who grow, make and market award-wining wine.
“Everyone involved in viticulture is passionate about what they do, and they love sharing that passion with others. For those who want to know a bit more about their favourite wine and where it comes from, the festival is a fantastic opportunity to meet the people who make and craft the wine.
“While there are loads of wonderful cellar door experiences in Marlborough, not all wineries have the facilities to welcome visitors so the festival offers a unique opportunity to taste wines you might not normally be able to.”
The festival also showcases the best of the region’s produce – think wild venison, fresh kaimoana and handcrafted cheeses.
“Our Culinary Pavilion is back with cooking demonstrations by Mark Southon, chef at Auckland’s iconic O’Connell Street Bistro, and Peter Gordon, the pioneer of fusion food. All festival goers have access to the pavilion and it’s always a popular stop throughout the day.
“Dedicated foodies can get further inspiration and insights from our masterclasses. These are immensely enjoyable 60-minute experiences. The ‘Celebrating 50 Years of Sauvignon Blanc – with Cheese’ masterclass is going to go down a treat – what a great way to celebrate the drop that Marlborough is world-famous for, paired with wonderful artisan aged cheese!
“The second masterclass is pretty special too, an ‘Unlock your inner winemaker’ experience where you blend your own unique glass of Marlborough Pinot Noir.”
Marcus says that there is something for everyone – whether you’re a regular festival-goer, or just starting on your journey to explore wine and food.
“The festival has been going for over 30 years now, so we’re seeing people who have been coming to the festival from the beginning now coming back with their adult children.
“It’s a very flexible offering – you have all you need for a great day with a general admission ticket, you can upskill with a Masterclass, or layer on some luxury with the VIP Retreat experience.
And the icing on the cake? The festival will feature multiple stages and performances throughout the day – from Broods (DJ set), Coterie, Sweet Mix Kids, Niko Walters and more.
