Get Together For a Good Cause – #CookForUkraineNZ
UNICEF Aotearoa, with support from Kiwi chef Peter Gordon and the Ukrainian Association of New Zealand, has launched the #CookForUkraineNZ campaign.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about the impact of war on children living in Ukraine and garner international support. The campaign invites Kiwis to host dinner parties, shared lunches, and bake sales to raise funds for children in Ukraine. Donations raised will provide children with life-saving assistance, including medical care and supplies, mental health support, warm clothes, clean water, and school supplies.
The launch of the campaign included cooking demonstrations and a shared lunch at Peter Gordon’s Homeland restaurant in Auckland, where members of the Ukrainian Association of New Zealand and UNICEF Aotearoa donors prepared traditional Ukrainian recipes.
Since the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, which affects 7.8 million children, UNICEF donors have provided clean water to 4.6 million people, education to over two million children, primary healthcare to 5.3 million children and women, and psychosocial and mental health support to 3.8 million children and their caregivers.
#CookForUkraineNZ is a simple way for Kiwis to help children affected by the war in Ukraine. The campaign will provide ongoing support for children suffering from the physical and internal scars of war.
UNICEF Aotearoa CEO Michelle Sharp stresses the need for continued support for children affected by conflict. Living in fear, trauma, and grief has devastated the mental health of children in Ukraine, with an estimated 1.5 million children at risk of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and other mental health issues. UNICEF remains in Ukraine and continues to deliver lifesaving supplies to children with the help of generous donors.
Overall, the #CookForUkraineNZ campaign provides an opportunity for New Zealanders to come together and raise awareness about the impact of war on children in Ukraine, while also supporting their needs.
