KaiNiue: A foodie festival in paradise
Come November 2018, the island nation of Niue will be host to a culinary event, held over three days, that celebrates the best of Pacific cuisine.
A tropical island holiday is sounding pretty good to us right now – time that with a cultural culinary festival and we’re completely sold.
This November, Niue will be host to KaiNiue – a festival dedicated to celebrating this Pacific nation’s unique flavours, as crafted by some of New Zealand’s best chefs.
Chef Jeremy Rameka, from award-winning Napier restaurant Pacifica, will be collaborating with Wellington’s Boulcott Street Bistro gastronome Rex Morgan to bring together their culinary skills for a welcome drinks event, and a gala dinner.
Top Kiwi chefs Ant and Lou Bentley from the Akaroa Cooking School will be holding master cooking classes at the Scenic Matavai Resort, with Yealands and Invivo Wines providing the perfect wine matches.
You can also experience the true taste of Niue with a traditional Niuean feast on the first night or catch a glimpse of Niuean life with an early morning trip to the local food market.
Niue Tourism chief executive Felicity Bollen says the festival promises to be an event to remember. “KaiNiue Food Festival will be a magical celebration of food and wine that is not to be missed. We can’t wait to show off Niue’s Pacific flavours, our amazing island and unique culture, but foodies need to book now because there are limited tickets to each event,” she says.
KaiNiue Food Festival visitors will also have time to sample the other delights of this amazing island – from swimming and snorkelling in some of the clearest water in the world, to whale and dolphin-watching, exploring the many hidden sea tracks, caves and chasms, or simply relaxing in Niue’s balmy tropical climate.
