New Opening: Miann Morningside

The team behind some of the city's best dessert haunts have opened another café-style offering.
With two dessert shops in the central city it’s about time Miann expanded into the suburbs.
Located in a non-descript street in Morningside the first thing you notice is the counters piled high with delectable looking pastries. Almond croissants, pain au chocolats, caramel filled donuts… the options certainly seem endless. And that’s before you even look over and see Miann's signature rows of candy colour macaroons, lacquered cakes and chilled gelato over to the right. The cosy premises has an open-style kitchen/patisserie where you can witness first-hand the pastry chefs in a relaxed atmosphere as they mix, measure and taste the goods before they’re served.
So what sets Miann Morningside apart from their other stores? It’s their speciality and what they’re likely to become known for – cubed-shaped croissants. Currenly offered in three flavours - a hazelnut Nutella filling, a coconut lamington version and a dish favourite: a lemon curd filled croissant topped with fluffy meringue. While the other two Miann outlets are more of your one-stop-dessert shops, Morningside has a relaxed café vibe and the drinks menu is made to suit. Alongside every tea and coffee you could possible crave, there is an extensive range of hot chocolates (six variations in total) milkshakes, iced teas, coffees and refreshing sodas.
And just when you think the delectable experience couldn’t get any sweeter, we’re whisked away next door by owner Brian Campbell to experience the other section – a chocolate shop. The rich smell of chocolate hits you as soon as you walk through the doors and you can see vats churning cocoa beans before your eyes. As you can imagine it’s a chocolate lovers dream. A fondue tap assists with making a chocolatey array of drinks and there will also be chocolate inspired sweet treats like traditional brownies and the American favourite – a s’mores sandwich which consists of 62% smoked chocolate and toasted meringue on a graham cracker. We predict sugar lovers will make this their regular haunt.
