Visa Wellington On a Plate Serves Food and More
Visa Wellington On a Plate is serving up more than 100 culinary events during their May edition which runs from 5-21 May. With so much to choose from, the team at Visa Wellington On a Plate have pulled together a hit list of Festival Events to satiate sustainability warriors and fascinate history fans.
If you like your foodie events with a side of sustainability, here are some green events that champion the greater good! Whether you’re looking for tips to reduce your own waste, or discover sustainable producers and practice, Visa Wellington On a Plate has you covered:
- If you enjoy getting hands-on in the kitchen these waste-busting workshops teach you how to get even more out of your produce while lessening your impact on the environment. Wellington’s own award-winning chef Asher Boote of Hillside and Daisy’s is running one at Kaibosh’s Hutt Valley depot, and ex-private chef Suzette McArtney will be presenting at Kaibosh in Paraparaumu. Get in quick as the workshop with Lucy Corry has nearly sold out!
- If you’d rather just be fed then Without Waste is for you. This is a collaborative event featuring With Wild premium Wapiti, championed by food waste reduction heavyweights Everybody Eats and LTD. Using byproducts from sister kitchens, Ombra and Kisa, a fun, playful menu has been created using a myriad of preserves and techniques over five courses while focusing on the use of multiple cuts of culled Fiordland Wapiti.
- The Eat NZ Kaitaki - Aotearoa’s next-generation food storytellers will dish up discussion about ‘what comes next’ over a five-course meal featuring sustainability-minded producers and chefs. Join Eat NZ Founder and award-winning chef Giuilio Sturla (Mapu) will join forces with five young Kaitaki chefs including Max Gordy (Graze Wine Bar), Jack Shewell (Food by Fire), Ellis Robbins (Everybody Eats), Baxter Neil (Hillside Kitchen) and Nikos Moraitis (Wharerata).
If you enjoy a side dish of history then these Visa Wellington On a Plate events are a perfect gateway to the past.
- Join Comedian Te Radar and The Salty Pidgin team as they create a feast for the senses. Crumbed Tongues and Tall Tales will celebrate New Zealand’s home cooking heritage - think Alison Holst, David Burton and Aunt Daisy - bringing you a degustation of reimagined and reinterpreted classics.
- From Drinking Crates to Fine Dining Plates, The Thistle Inn has been through it all. Teaming up with {Suite} Gallery, you can experience the stories of Wellington’s yesteryear through Ans Westra’s photography as you settle in for an indulgent four-course, long lunch. Bringing history, fine food, and photography altogether in Wellington's most iconic pub.
Whatever your inner culinary adventurer craves, there’s something for everyone at Visa Wellington On a Plate. You can check out the full Festival Programme at visawoap.com.
