Wynyard Quarter's Little ‘Lato voted New Zealand's favourite place to buy ice cream

Banana & Peanut Butter, Pina Colada, Hot Cross Bun, Banana & Bacon French Toast as well as Massaman Curry gelato are just a few of the unexpected, sublime flavours that earned this little Auckland shop the nation's number one scoop shop spot.

Whether it was the award winning flavours, abundnce of dairy-free options, the warm and hospitable customer service or Kiwi's growing love of gelato, Little 'Lato has earned the hearts of the nation. As part of New Zealand Ice Cream Month, Kiwis voted for the ice cream or gelato shop they loved the most in the Barker’s Favourite NZ Scoop Shop, and Wynyard Quarter's Little 'Lato came out on top. 

The bespoke gelato company was started in December 2017, by Chief Gelato Maker Hannah Wood, who aims, with the help of her team, to add a little joy into each customer's day. And now that they have scooped up the win, it seems that New Zealand reckon she is achieving that goal with each serve. 

Hannah fell in love with gelato after she received a scholarship to study at the Carpigiani Gelato University in Italy in 2015. "Gelato still wasn’t that well known in New Zealand," she explains. "Especially compared to other countries around the world, so I was inspired to help Kiwis fall in love with gelato."

And it appears, after this win, and the other accolades her business has picked up, she has made that happen too. In 2020, Little 'Lato was awarded the Sensient Technologies Champion Gelato Award for their Speculoos Gelato. They collected two trophies in 2019; ‘Best of Nuts’ with Hazelnut Chocolate gelato and the aforementioned Massaman Curry gelato took the ‘Open Creative Trophy’.
