Last Night's Dinner – Huami

SkyCity has a brand new dining destination – a flavoursome ode to the orient.
Piqued as one of Auckland's must-visit dining destinations, SkyCity just got even better, with the addition of the inspired new Chinese eatery, Huami.
Walk through the ornate red double doors on Auckland's Federal Street, and you'll discover a restaurant that delivers on its namesake. 'Huami' meaning 'nectar' in Mandarin, is an eatery worth its weight.
While the likes of Masu, The Grill and Gusto at The Grand have long lured visitors from all over Auckland, the precinct certainly isn't short on culinary clout. Yet SkyCity can now add the full Chinese banquet experience to an already impressive repertoire.
In order to create an authentic and unmatched dining experience, the team collaborated with notable hospitality experts, including Masu's Nic Watt, executive chef Jeff Tan, restaurant manager Kai Zhao and master sommelier Cameron Douglas, to channel the glamour of 1930s Shanghai à la Zhou Xuan.
The food on offer here highlights the very best of provincial China, boasting inspired cuisine from Canton, Sichuan, Huaiyang and Beijing, while using traditional Chinese preparation methods.
For those seeking the full Huami experience, classic dishes such as Peking duck, hand-crafted dim sum, braised New Zealand abalone and crayfish add a sense of heritage and diversity to a brilliantly curated menu.
What's more, local diners will receive the first taste of dishes prepared in an authentic wood-fired duck oven and duck drying room – the first of its kind here in New Zealand. For those simply looking for an after work tipple, the cocktail offerings and smaller bites shine alongside an impressive whisky and Chinese rice wine list.
In a city inundated with inner-city dining options, an elegant Chinese destination is long overdue. Thankfully, Huami well and truly fits the bill.
