Tomorrow's Dinner - San Francisco Bath House

One of Wellington's last remaining music venues has reopened its doors to diners as well as music lovers.
Place: San Francisco Bath House, lovingly termed ‘San Fran’ by Wellingtonians, is located amongst the eccentric hustle and bustle of Cuba Street. It's one of the capital's last remaining live music venues, and has recently re-opened to the public after a complete refurbishment. Now boasting a menu full of comforting casual dishes, it's the perfect location for a relaxed pre-weekend dinner or a lazy Saturday afternoon.
People: Owner Tim Ward has teamed up with local brewer and craft beer expert Shigeo Takagi (Shiggy) and San Fran’s very own music host Ziggy Ziya. They believe that live music is the soul of the bar and have combined this aspect with great food and craft beers, blending together ‘brews, bites and beats’.
Mood: The venue’s revamp has left San Fran with a lighter, brighter interior creating an atmosphere suited to those that desire to dine more than drink. The bar has a rustic feel, true to Wellington, with recycled furniture and timber panels covering the wall behind the bar.
On the menu: The casual menu can’t be described as typical bar food. The American style tapas include unique tasting plates such as fried gherkin with yogurt dip and mouth-watering, perfectly fried cheese balls. If unsure what to order we recommend the classic Cheeseburger with the not so classic smoked beer pate.
In the glass: True to its laid-back theme, San Fran offers an impressive selection of craft and tap beers. Customers can choose from New Zealand or International brews, including Almanac Extra Pale Ale from the city of San Francisco itself.
Go tomorrow: For a beer and burger with friends and let the night transition into an evening of live soulful music.
Open: Tuesday through to Saturday 3pm till late.
Address: 171 Cuba Street, Wellington.
