What We're Eating and Drinking: Issue 109

There’s no rest for the food-obsessed... when the dish team isn’t bringing you delicious recipes, we’re out there trawling far and wide in search of tasty fare. Below, we share our latest favourite haunts.
Claire Aldous, Food Editor
10 William Street, Sydney:

Next time you’re in Sydney, try and score a seat at one of my favourite restaurants. High-energy with great service, 10 William Street is a very small, intimate bistro serving up fabulous Italian cuisine. Their small menu can change daily based on the best produce available, but if Spaghetti Chitarra, King Prawns and Chervil are listed, don’t hesitate. There are usually only three desserts, one being their signature Tiramisu. Be brave and order them all! 10williamst.com.au

Rice Rice Baby, Tauranga:

Vietnamese is without a doubt my favourite cuisine, so heading to Rice Rice Baby in Mount Maunganui was a no-brainer with its vibrant and fun atmosphere. If I’m stopping in for lunch, I love the Pork Banh Mi – it’s a classic Vietnamese baguette with pickled carrot, daikon, coriander and their delicious homemade mayo and paté. Otherwise, if I’m dining in for dinner, I’m going all out with my fave menu items being Prawn, Coconut and Tumeric Bites, Grilled Meat Noodle Salad, or the Creamy Chicken Curry. They’ve recently opened a location in Hamilton, which I am yet to try, but if it’s anything like the Mount, it will be a hit! ricericebaby.co.nz

Mānuka Café & Restaurant, Devonport:

Found along Devonport’s popular Victoria Road, this was a lovely spot to enjoy a stack of delicious Blueberry Pancakes for brunch. We sat outside in the glorious sun, but would love to return one evening for dinner – the interior is gorgeous with exposed brick and timber. Super cosy. And Allpress coffee is always a win! manukarestaurant.co.nz

Manis, Ponsonby:

I love croissants... and have been known to line up outside Lune in Australia to wait for one. When a friend recently suggested we catch up for breakfast I shouted out, “Let’s go to Manis!”. I know I am putting my head on the chopping block here because I am sure there are other croissant lovers out there who also have their favourites. However, before you throw stones at me you have to try the ones from Manis. They are golden, flaky, buttery, so soft on the inside and crisp on the outside – the perfect heavenly crunch-to-butter ratio. Plus, the cabinets are filled with mouthwatering sweet and savoury pastry options. manisbakery.co.nz

My Fried Chicken, Newmarket:

If you’re a fan of Korean fried chicken and looking for a great place to satisfy your cravings, I highly recommend checking out the new member of the My Fried Chicken family in Newmarket. The chicken is cooked to perfection, with a variety of delicious flavours to choose from. The sides are also fantastic, and the service is amazing. I am usually a beer and fried chicken kind of gal, but veered out of my comfort zone and had a raspberry sour cocktail, which did not disappoint. @myfriedchicken.nz
