Awards aplenty for Durello Traditional Brazillian Foods

They started just 11 months ago, but Barbara Scholten and Marcelo Menoita's Traditional Brazillian breads and chicken bites have garnered an unanticipated level of acclaim...

In 2008, Marcello Menoita and Barbara Scholten moved to New Zealand from Brazil with ten suitcases and four children in tow. Five years later and Durello - Traditional Brazillian Foods was launched from a small commercial kitchen in Auckland city.

The pair began simply, creating traditional Brazillian cheese bread rolls, hand rolling each batch. Within six weeks demand had outgrown supply, and the business was restructured to make it easy to batch produce the ready-to-bake delicacy. 

They're now based in a large commercial kitchen in Albany, and are reaping the benefits of hard work with a series of awards and a new product launch heralding even more growth in a short space of time. Their Coxinha (Brazillian chicken bites) won the NZ Food Award's Convenience Category last month, and their cheese breads were a Fine Food Finalist in June. 

Today the company produces around 35,000 savouries a month with the same care and dedication set to standards as when they first began just 11 months ago.
