Drop of the Day - Yealands Reserve Rosé

From windswept terrain to sweeping up the awards, Yealands produces another hit with their Yealands Reserve Rosé.
In today’s scorching hot property market, mere mention of the word ‘seaview’ is guaranteed to tack on a million dollars to the price tag. But many years ago, Yealands Seaview Vineyard in Marlborough was considered by some as an undesirable location for growing grapes due to the wild, windswept and undulating terrain. How wrong they were.
Today, Seaview Vineyard is one of the most exciting vineyards in Marlborough’s prominent winemaking region of the Awatere Valley. The folded landscape creates micro-climates that result in growing conditions which provide outstanding and unique expressions across Yealands award-winning varietals. Among them is the outstanding Yealands Reserve Rosé.
Yealands award-winning varietals don’t come about by accident, the hard graft begins at harvest - the Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir parcels that created this Rosé were individually harvested and field destemmed to ensure optimal quality.
A long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks captured bright, fresh fruit characters beloved by rosé drinkers. Each parcel was fermented separately with a range of yeasts to build complexity and structure. Following fermentation, the wine was blended, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.
While the process is long and complicated the result is well worth the wait. Upon opening the bottle, your senses are greeted by the brimming aromas of red summer berries and fresh pomegranate that will leave your tastebuds begging for a sample of their own. What they will experience is a fresh and juicy palate with hints of vanilla pod and mouth-watering strawberry shortcake.
How do you match such an extraordinary palate? We recommend soft cheeses or cheese based dishes like our Goat Cheese Croquettes with Honey and Toasted Almonds or with our Zucchini, Mozzarella and Green Olive Pizza. If you prefer to pair it up with something sweet, you can’t go wrong with our Rhubarb and Strawberry Frangipane Tarts.
Vegetarians, vegans and the gluten-intolerant will be happy to know that they can enjoy this wine as well with a few of our matching recipes such as our Gluten and Dairy Free Pizza with Almond Rosemary Base, Creamy Hummus and Macadamia Pesto.
Yealands Wines launched in 2008 with the ambition of becoming a world leader in sustainable wine production. Forward-thinking, they're proud to be the first winery in the world to be certified Toitū carbonzero since day one. This means they have always accurately measured their greenhouse gas emissions and have put in place strategies to manage, reduce and offset their impact. That's wine you can toast to with a clear conscience.
