Kiwi wine reigns supreme at the International Wine Tourism Awards
Brancott Estate Heritage Centre has taken home the prestigious title of 2014 International Best of Wine Tourism award, the only New Zealand cellar door to be awarded this title.
Located in Marlborough, the Brancott Estate Heritage Centre was announced as one of the nine international winners at an awards ceremony held at the Culinary Institute of America’s Greystone campus in St. Helena, California. The nine international winners were chosen from 53 local ‘Best Of‘ winners from nine Great Wine Capitals. In all, 350 applications were received this year.
The Brancott Estate Heritage Centre won the “Innovative Wine Tourism” category for its ‘Mastery of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc’ - a tutored wine tasting that demonstrates the diversity of the Marlborough Terroir and how it shapes Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Chief winemaker Patrick Materman says the estate is ecstatic to have been awarded the title two years running. “The Marlborough region attracts a great number of wine tourism visitors annually and we’re proud that the Brancott Estate Heritage Centre has been recognised with this International Award,” he says.
“We’re very proud of this home for Brancott Estate which offers a valuable platform from which to honour the origins and location of the original Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc plantings and the success of the varietal that’s gone on to become the world’s favourite New Zealand wine style,” Patrick says.
The Brancott Estate Heritage Centre is open seven days a week 10.00am - 4.30pm.
