Tomorrow's Lunch – Fry Baby

Golden hand-cut fries topped with flavoursome sauces and seasonings – form an orderly line, folks, Fry Baby is here.
Is there anything better than hot fries to wrap up a night out? Or perhaps a scoop of golden hand-cut goodness is your go-to hangover cure or treat of choice come cheat day? Whether you fancy your frites positively dripping in condiments, served with a generous squirt of tom sauce or sprinkled with just a pinch of salt and a douse of malt vinegar – let's make one thing very clear right from the outset, Auckland's brand spanking new Fry Baby is everyone's type.
This blink-and-you'll-miss-it type street eatery occupies a hole-in-the-wall on Auckland's Custom Street East, the newly-minted Snickel Lane. The menu, as its name might suggest, exclusively serves Belgian fries, each hand-cut and twice-fried in coconut oil to crispy perfection, then topped with a variety of deliciously different condiments. The Dish team make the great pilgrimage to Auckland's CBD on a busy Friday afternoon, eager to get our hands around a scoop.
Let it be known, the fries on offer here are just as moreish as we expected, a true testament to owner Roland Sokcevic Senior and his son's tried and true recipe methods. During our visit, the team are busy pedalling scoops by the minute, thanks primarily to word of mouth, the location and the steady flow of foot traffic. Hefty portions of generously cut fries are dressed in rich, finger-licking sauces like Mayo Daze, Wild Aioli, Green Goddess and Greek Sting. If you're downtown and considering a fry by visit, pack your appetite and skip the golden arches – seriously. One hearty scoop here can comfortably feed two, or even three, salivating fry-lovers.
It's not hard to see why punters have taken a shining to this tasty little spot dedicated to our favourite side. It's been a long time coming, but it's safe to say Fry Baby can take full credit for upgrading the humble fry from best supporting to lead. The long pilgrimage home after a night out just got a whole lot better.
