L’affare’s Limited Edition College St Blend is back in town

College Street Blend, the famous flavour hit from last year is back, but for a limited time only.

It’s a tip of the cap to the iconic L’affare café, located at 27 College Street, where all their coffee-roasting dreams began. This eclectic and bustling 145-seater cafe situated in the heart of Te Aro has been loved by Wellingtonians for over 30 years.

Fans of the 2022 release know this blend doesn’t disappoint. Notes include tropical fruit, blackcurrant, and subtle milk chocolate. It’s a versatile blend, suitable for all brewing methods, but the L’affare team say it’s a ‘must try’ as an espresso.

If you’re a Wellingtonian, you’ll know this reputable café spot and if you’re outside of Wellington, it’s a must-do when you’re visiting the capital. The food and service are just as impeccable as the coffee.

To celebrate the comeback of this blend, Hamish Stewart, Café Manager at L’affare shares a bit about College Street and top tips for a great cup of coffee at home.

Why do you think L’affare’s College Street café has stood the test of time?
“It’s an iconic institution in Wellington and has been a popular spot with a real sense of community for many years. But it’s not just the café that is well known, the brand has grown nationally since the early 90s. People know our brand from supermarkets, other cafes that serve our coffee as well as our flagship cafes in Te Aro and Newmarket.”

What is the most unusual thing on the café menu right now?
“Our Corn & Chipotle Beignets. Being savoury they’re a little different to traditional beignets which are sweet. Another is our Coffee Fried Chicken accompanied by ranch salad, which is competing with Eggs Benedict and the Bacon Butty for the most popular menu item right now. It’s not to be missed!”

What is your best tip for making a good cup of coffee at home?
“It’s a combination of practice, fresh beans and cleaning your equipment properly after each use. You aren’t meant to taste the coffee you made yesterday morning in your plunger the following day. A well-cleaned machine/tool will keep the coffee tasting its best and won’t wear out the parts as quickly.”

Released in May, the tasty College St blend is available in the fresh coffee aisle at quality retail stores nationwide.
